The reading of The War of the Worlds in 1938 by Orson Welles was not a simple radio broadcast.
It’s intent was to see if the American public would buy the story.
And the overwhelming majority did so.
They believed there was actually a spacecraft at Grovers Mill New Jersey.
And that soon afterwards a fleet of spaceships from Mars arrived.
They had a person claiming to be the Secretary of the Interior
And a person claiming he was a professor
Give speeches to make it sound even more real.
Nothing much has changed.
