Monument Valley in Arizona has gigantic incredibly shaped buttes
They sweep along the landscape in curves
And their interspersed meanderings of vertical ridges extend for hundreds of miles
In some places the crust is folded
And has sharply delineated sidewalls
Their bases are of debris and rubble
There are straight cuts in rock faces
And dark stains reminiscent of melting
That run down the face of the ridgelines
Here too is a variety of slot canyons
Many have narrow fractures
Some are too small to squeeze through
One slot canyon may continue for half a mile
Then give way to another one of even greater length
Monument Valley Canyonlands and Arches National Park
Share the same type of terrain
Monument Valley has the Druid Arch
Which looks like a giant robotron with long arms
One can spot giant animal looking rock formations
And huge mushroom shaped pillars
Much of the sandstone is red which indicates heat
There is a sense of desolation
And an uneasy quietness with a story that needs to be told
We are given the explanation that these monoliths are many millions of years old
And the result of slow wind and rain erosion
But wind and water do not cut hard rock
And uniformed layered strata cannot be the result of chance erosion
Sudden high energy melted these structures and petrified them into stone
If you accept the obvious you can start down the rabbit hole
Or you can continue to be in the fog and deception of academia!
