The appearance of a new sun every 52 years
Was contingent upon the kindling of Agni
As Mars blocked the glow of Saturn
With his self immolation upon the hearth of Venus
An eclipse was created
The end of 52 year cycle or Jubilee was marked by an eclipse of the former sun
When the very existence of the God of Order was threatened
The Mayan New Year rite included an anxious vigil
Of watching the recreation of the world
If the new fire was not successfully drilled
Terrifying star demons would reassert their control
The apocalyptic darkness produced an assault of plasma streamers
And a scourge of pestilence
This was a time of tumult and disorder
All were disquieted unnerved and frightened

The primeval union or marriage of Venus and Mars
